Self-hosted smart-home control for individuals and households

Who can use HomeBrain?

HomeBrain is a consumer smart-home platform available to any individual or household. It is not restricted to employees, companies, clients, partners, contractors, or members of an invited organization.

The HomeBrain software is publicly available under the Apache License 2.0. No business relationship, invitation, pre-approval, or organization membership is required to download and install it.

1. Install your HomeBrain hub

A HomeBrain hub is the user-owned computer that runs the HomeBrain service and keeps each household's accounts and smart-home data separate. HomeBrain supports compatible Ubuntu or Debian computers, including ARM64 and x86_64 systems; a Jetson Orin Nano is the best-tested option for local AI features.

Download HomeBrain and follow the public installation instructions. The installer prints the local address to use in the mobile app.

2. Create the first household account

On a newly installed hub, choose Set Up New Hub in the iPhone or iPad app, enter the hub address, and create the first household-owner account. The same first-account flow is also available from the hub's web interface.

For household security, open registration closes after the first owner account is created. That owner can then add family members or other trusted household users from the HomeBrain Users screen. This is household access control, not company or client approval.

3. Connect your Apple devices

  1. Enter the full HomeBrain hub address in the iPhone or iPad app.
  2. Sign in with the account stored on that household's hub.
  3. Optionally install the Apple Watch companion and choose which household controls to synchronize.

Pricing and accounts

HomeBrain has no paid account, paid digital content, in-app purchase, subscription, advertising, or fee to unlock app features. A household may separately own compatible computers, smart-home devices, or optional third-party services; those products are not purchased through the HomeBrain app.

App Review access

Apple App Review receives a persistent account for an isolated public demo hub. Reviewers do not need to install a hub, join an organization, use a VPN, or own physical smart-home hardware to evaluate the complete app.
